Why become a member of TWHAWC?
The goals of TWHAWC are to promote the Tennessee Walking Horse and it's diverse and unique qualities by offering members a host of opportunities to come together with their horses.
TWHAWC offers Clinics - The annual Gaited Experience Clinic in June features two noted clinicians to assist members in learning how to get the most enjoyment out of their gaited horse. Extreme Cowboy Clinic is offered twice a season to introduce horse and rider to man-made and natural trail obstacles. The goal is to create a quiet partnership when encountering strange or new situations and obstacles with emphasis on seat and safety. The Show Clinic is offered in April to help fine tune or introduce new riders and horses to the show atmosphere, what judges typically look for, and how to get yourself and your horse ready to show. If you have never shown but want to start this is the clinic for you! If you have a new horse and are looking to see how he/she will do with all the commotion in a low pressure environment, this is for you!
TWHAWC offers Horse Shows - There are three All Breed Versatility shows held in June, July & August under the Great Northern Versatility Show banner. These three shows are generally 3 day events beginning with Gymkhana Friday evening, English Riding on the Saturday and Western riding on the Sunday. The fourth show is in September under Western Canada Regional Horse Show and Futurity. This show is open to Walking horses only and is held over two days. Saturday is English riding with the Futurity taking place in the evening. Sunday is Western riding. Our fifth show in October is a Fun Show with relay games and group games meant to encourage a fun and friendly atmosphere and to just get out and enjoy your horse. There is a costume class offered as well! Spectators are welcome and encouraged at all our shows.
TWHAWC offers Trail Rides - Our trail ride program offers some simple day rides to weekend camp trips. A highlight of the trail
riding season is the May long weekend trip to Kootenay Plains! There are always members looking for fellow members for spontaneous rides too! Like our Facebook Page to stay in touch with members or to plan a ride.
TWHAWC offers Exposure- TWHAWC maintains a prominent presence at local trade shows and equine fairs. Every year TWHAWC has a key role at the Mane Event, an all equine trade exposition in Red Deer, Alberta with a clinic and demo times. TWHAWC also attends a breed demo in Fultonvale, Alberta. Our web site offers a sales page for those looking to place ads or if you are looking to purchase your next horse. The web site also is a way of keeping up to date on events with our Events Calendar and Blog. Our Facebook page is a great way to connect and stay updated with fun pictures, tips, and videos.
TWHAWC offers Family Fun - The Annual Dinner and Dance gets the year off to a rockin' start in February, complete with games for the kids and silent auction. Trail rides, shows and clinics are a great way to get out and meet new members and old friends. Bi-monthly meetings with pot luck lunch offer time to catch up and be involved in your association; even the youth are encouraged to be present at meetings as they are the future of the association and their views are valued. Year end wraps up with a Christmas Party, dinner, gift exchange, award ceremonies and of course - good company!
Membership does have its advantages. In addition to the opportunity to participate in a wide range of equine activities, TWHAWC holds regular membership meetings, publishes a blog on the Web Site and maintains an active Facebook Page. Membership includes free advertising on the TWHAWC website, including breeding opportunities, horses for sale, and information members wish to communicate with other members.
