For anyone curious about how the ACTHA rides are set up:

The day begins at 8am with an on site breakfast. 9am is rider registration, followed by a judges meeting and then rider orientation where the route is discussed and the different obstacles you'll encounter. 10am is the first ride time. (Ride times are picked when you register) The ride is as fast or as relaxed as you make it. At the obstacles the judges are looking for quite horse and riders who can navigate the obstacle at ease. That's not to say your horse will cooperate, but that's half the fun! The obstacles are meant to be challenging but not dangerous. If at anytime you feel there is an issue you can pass the challenge. All judge teams are equipped with radios, so if you are new to trail riding this is a very good place to start. There are different divisions which will have different levels of obstacles, so new or pro, there is something for everyone.
Once your ride is complete and your horse watered, there is lunch and hanging out with good people. When all the riders have returned the judges are brought back and the points tallied. Finally the award ceremony and prize presentation is held and you can find out how you and your horse did!
