In March 2012, I bought my Belle (Ridgewalker's Chinook) and brought her home. I had been looking for a horse that I could feel a connection with and that was  reliable and experienced.  I had not planned on buying any particular breed,  just a good horse!  Belle and I have a great deal to learn.  I really enjoyed  riding her last year and felt safe enough to go on a couple of trail rides which  I had not done for many years.  However, I did not know how to achieve the  proper flat and running walk gaits and she had not learned them growing up so she liked to trot!!  When I heard about the Gaited Experience Clinic in Stoney Plain AB on  June 1& 2, I  knew we needed to go!!

The first day of the clinic I was riding Belle with a  plain snaffle bit and whenever I tried to push her into a flat walk, she just  fought the bit and we did not get very far! Grace Adams quickly realized the difficulty I was having and asked Bill to bring a different bridle and bit for  Belle.  It had the same bit but had flat shanks.  It took a little while for  Belle and I to get used to the new arrangement, but that afternoon we achieved a  bit of a flat walk and by the next day we were even running!!  The instructors,  Barb and Jared, were  extremely good and took lots of time with each of us!   Everyone I met was so friendly and helpful and I thank you all for that! I  drove home on adrenaline and could hardly wait to tell my hubby, Bob, all about  it!!  And I ordered a new bit for Belle too!!

Lois Elliott

Thanks Lois for making the trip from Saskatchewan with Belle! We hope to see you back next year.
