Make sure to reserve your tickets early as there is only a limited amount of seats available. Hope to see you there! What a great year 2013 was for our club! We tried some new things like with the Extreme Cowboy Clinic which was a big success, and adding more Shows to our GNR Versatility Series. Our tried and true staples like the Gaited Experience and booth at the Mane Event were both well attended. We had members who experienced wonderful trail rides and new scenery on horseback. We met new members at horse shows, clinics, and got to sit around with a great group of people to discuss horses and life. We have a great group of people who have chosen to give their time to this Club to ensure it's success. We can always use more involvement from our members as well, so don't think for a second that your help isn't important. We can always use volunteers for the Mane Event, at horse shows, on a committee or just by lending a helping hand to a new member. No involvement is to small if you put your heart into it. Looking forward to 2014 we plan on making this year better than last, and this is a trend we hope to continue for future years. The dates for the 4 shows have been set, the 2 Extreme Cowboy Clinics are in the works, the Gaited Experience is sure to please again, the Mane Event planning will start to ramp up, and of course our first Big Event of 2014 the Valentines Dance February 15th! I really can't wait to get this year under way! With the people we have in the club and the events we have planned this is going to be a stellar year. I encourage everyone to get involved as much as they can. This club is what you make it and the more fun you have they more fun we all have. 2014 is the Year of the Horse according to the Chinese calendar, so lets get out there and really make 2014 the YEAR OF THE HORSE! The final TWHAWC show finished up today. What a blast! Dolly Parton Pole Bending, Soggy Barrels, Relay Races, Trail Obstacles, Costume Class and more. Fun shows like these are a great learning experience since it exposes horses to many things they would not normally see, it can give riders a new understanding of their horses and lets face it, it is just plain fun to hang out with everyone! There is a gallery for this show on the Web Site and new pictures will be added as they become available. Video will be posted to the Facebook page in the next few days. A big Thank You to the Hirsekorn Family for hosting the event, the cooks who put on the Pot Luck, the volunteers who helped time and arrange the obstacles. And of course, our horses! - Who let us play silly games from their back then dress them up in funny clothes and parade them around The Western Canada Regional Horse Show and Futurity was held in Olds Alberta September 14th & 15th.

Great Northern Regional Versatility Show Series Presents the HOT AUGUST WEEKEND SHOW August 16th , 17th and 18th Double W Ranch in Bluffton AB All-Breed and TWH Rail Classes All Versatility Classes are open to any breed Click HERE to link to Class Lists For 2013 Rule book Click HERE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! What a great show! Thank you to every one who exhibited, volunteered and the spectators. These shows are a lot of work to put on and it's very rewarding to see new faces showing and in the stands. This year we had our first stick horse event for the kids on Saturday and a lead line event on the Sunday. The turn out for these events was impressive. It was great to see a younger generation take an interest in these great horses. Our competitive youth numbers are growing as well and it is great to see more advance into 3-gait classes. Our next show is August 16-18 in Bluffton Alberta. Information can be found under the Events Calendar or under Comprehensive TWH sections of the website. The Extreme Cowboy Clinic was great fun. The name implies a lot but the focus was not so much on the "Extreme" as it was focused on getting the communication between rider and horse clear and consistent; as well and working through horse or rider wariness of obstacles. Many of the horses had never seen some of these items or challenges. In some cases the horse was unsure of what to do with this new situation and sometimes it was the people sending mixed messages because of their own fear of "what if" and "I don't know how he will react". Each station was worked on until the horse and rider felt more confident. The feed back received from this clinic was so positive that we will be looking to hold a second clinic. There was also many who expressed interest that couldn't make it to this date. You do not need to be riding a walking horse either, this clinic is beneficial to any breed and any skill level. It was also great fun to just hang out with the horses and meet new people. If you would like to put your name down on the list for the second clinic, please e-mailGrace and include what weekends would be preferred weekends you could attend a 2 day clinic in Nisku. |
