Gaited Experience 2015

It was wonderful to have Tracy Pinson and Carrie Martin at our 2015 Gaited Experience Clinic.

This is the first time our club has had a Trail Obstacle portion to our clinic, and it was a great addition! Tracy worked with horse/riders who have never seen a Cowboy Curtain or Tarp to a horse that has begun competing in the Extreme Cowboy Races. This was a diverse group of horse/riders which made Tracy's job challenging to find the right balance for all participants. The reactions I heard all weekend were all very positive, as some had never had the chance to try these things at home. For those with more experience it was wonderful to get feedback from someone who's competed at such a high level at Extreme Cowboy Racing.

Carrie Martin's focus was in the round pen and on gait and rider aids. What a difference some small adjustments make. I watched many riders go round and round; and the horse begin to respond with more animation as Carrie made suggestions from the ground. I don't know how she didn't get dizzy from walking all those small circles all day for 18 riders per day.

The Fultonvalle Horse Showcase was this past Sunday May 24th in Strathcona County. The Drill Team from Star Walkers in Leduc AB attended to showcase the Tennessee Walking Horse. The Star Walkers team provided horses and handlers to give kids their first Walking Horse ride, completed two drill performances and had two horses showcase the versatility of the breed by competing in a Trail Obstacle Challenge. There were approximately 60 kids who signed up for the pony rides for this all day event. A huge Thank You goes out to everyone who participated, and I hope I don’t leave anyone out. Nicole Hirsekorn for organizing, hauling and creating the drill, Jessica & Leslie Bachman, Sienna Gullickson, Loretta Borden, Mike Fiest, Reagan Wasilka, Sande Hirsekorn & Koren LeVoir.

Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders' & Exhibitors' AssociationLove getting emails like the one below! Thank you Connie Waldo for representing this great breed, TWHBEA and the USA.

Good afternoon;

I wanted to send you a qu...ick note and if you could also forward it to who ever it may pertain to that would be greatly appreciated.

On April 24,25 and 26 our club Tennessee Walking Horse Association of Western Canada had the privilege of hosting Connie Waldo as a guest Clinician at the Mane Event held in Red Deer Alberta Canada.

Connie went above and beyond lending a helping hand, after being on an airplane all day and being exhausted from travel to helping our club unload horses, tack and feed.

She was bright and chipper early the next morning during her first clinic which had great attendance we had 8 Tennessee Walkers in all the clinic's along with a grand stand full of spectators.

Being the friendly Canadians we are we wanted Connie to get the full Canadian experience by waking up to a nice blanket of snow on the Saturday morning.

Connie stayed around after each of her clinic's answering questions and helping out when ever possible. It truly was a pleasure hosting Connie at the 2015 Mane Event.

As president of TWHAWC I want to thank TWHBEA for all your support in making this years event a success, without this partnership we couldn't promote this breed that we have all come to know and love

Sincerely;

Brent Bachman
President

In addition to raising and training several Supreme Versatility Champions, Tracy’s accomplishments span over 35 years and include a host of rail and versatility titles including world and international championships, as well as being a  four-time Extreme Cowboy Race Non-Pro World Champion in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014.  And

Carrie Martin

 Carrie Martin has had a lifetime of experience with horses. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Carrie started with Arabian show horses, primarily in the western pleasure division. She then branched out to other breeds when moving to central Florida. Carrie was introduced to the flat shod Tennessee Walking Horse in 2001 and they quickly became her new focus. She attained her trainers license in 2006 and has introduced multiple young people from around the world to this incredible breed of horse while working at Montverde Academy as their director and head trainer. Now located in middle Tennessee in the heart of Walking horse country Carrie is operating her own training barn. Being known for her positive approach to lessons and instructing, her students have found great success no matter how timid the rider. She brings a unique approach to training the Walking Horse with ground work to establish a strong foundation in her horses. Carrie has enjoyed training for and coaching all ages and levels of riders and is proud of their many accomplishments, both personal and actual. Carrie's horses and riders have attained multiple Regional,  World and International Championships

The final show of the year is bitter sweet. On one hand we all made it through another show season with personal victories, goals achieved, new goals to work towards, and friendships forged. On the other hand we have to temporarily say good bye to warm weather, the excitement of shows, and seeing our horse friends at least once a month.

I'd like to thank our Announcer: Brent Bachman, Ring Steward Karen Gresham, Gate Person: Mike Fiest, Raffle Coordinator: Sharon Bell, Show Secretary: Sandie Hirsekorn, Show Chair: Nicole Hirsekorn, our Judge Kevin Gilliam. Thank you to the Show Committee Members, the show Mom and Dad's who not only look after their own children but become everyone's Mom & Dad and of course all our Participants; if it wasn't for your hard work all year long with your horses, hauling to our shows and riding in as many classes as you can fit into, we couldn't hold these shows.
